The results of the SINCRO.GRID - Phase 1 project

The SINCRO.GRID - Phase 1 project demonstrated how distribution and transmission system operators could enable their existing infrastructure to accept greater quantities of electricity from renewable sources while continuing to ensure a reliable electricity supply. Such integration has also increased synergies and the economic efficiency of the investment.

    TECHNOLOGIES,

    INTRODUCED BY THE SINCRO.GRID PROJECT

Compensation devices for reactive power control

ELES and HOPS installed three variable shunt reactors, two static VAR compensators, and a mechanically-switched capacitor with a damping network. By installing those devices, they achieved the goals of voltage profile control and the possibility of voltage regulation in the electricity systems of both Slovenia and Croatia.

    INTRODUCED BY THE SINCRO.GRID PROJECT

    Battery energy storage systems

Two battery energy storage systems were installed in Slovenia to facilitate the transition to future electricity systems in which electricity production from dispersed renewables and the active participation of consumers in the energy market will prevail.

    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    Dynamic Thermal Rating System

The purpose of the system for real-time and short-term forecast assessment of grid operating limits (SUMO), which is entirely the result of Slovenian knowledge, is to assess the marginal capacities of transmission grid components with the help of dynamic thermal rating, and in this way provide for better utilisation of transmission lines.

    Virtual Cross-border Control Centre (VCBCC)

The Virtual Cross-Border Control Centre enabled better observability of energy networks and more accurate forecasting of renewable energy source production. This is the first case in Europe where neighbouring transmission system operators have joined forces in regulating and optimising the voltage in their networks.

    ABOUT THE PROJECT
